How to find your winning ad creative — and make more of it

A repeatable way to spot which creatives are actually winning, read why, and turn that into your next batch of concepts. No guessing.

How to find your winning ad creative — and make more of it

Most teams can tell you which ad spent the most. Far fewer can tell you which creative is actually winning, and almost none can say why. That gap is where creative budgets quietly leak. Closing it takes four steps.

Group by creative, not by ad

The same creative runs as dozens of ads across audiences and placements. Judge performance at the ad level and you drown in noise. Group every ad by its underlying creative first, then read the group. Now a "winner" is a concept, not a line item.

Grade against your KPI — honestly

Pick the one KPI your client is paying for and grade each creative against your real bar: Winning, Losing, Fatiguing. Two honesty rules keep it useful. Put a spend floor on it, because a creative that spent $40 hasn't proven anything. And flag low-sample patterns instead of overclaiming them.

  • Winning: beats your bar with real spend behind it
  • Fatiguing: was winning, now trending down
  • Losing: below bar, so cut it or learn from it

Read the why

Once you know what's winning, extract the attributes: hook, tone, production style, format, on-brand fit, claims. Patterns show up across production style, hook and tone. That's your "what's working": the honest, spend-weighted view of the directions beating your bar.

The word is always "wins," never "will." You're not predicting the future. You're reading what already happened, clearly.

Make more of what wins

The whole read exists to feed the next brief. Turn a winning pattern into a batch of new concepts grounded in it, same proven direction, fresh executions, and keep the receipt: which creatives, which window, how many graded. That's what lets you defend the concept instead of hand-waving. AgentMark runs this loop, but the method works by hand too.
